AWS Transform

Migrate & Modernize with Agentic AI

AWS Transform is a collaborative transformation workbench powered by specialized AI agents. They assess, plan, and execute enterprise migrations and code modernization — VMware, mainframe, full-stack Windows, and any custom code pattern — and keep reducing tech debt continuously after the project ends.

Know What You Have Before You Move It

Every migration starts as an inventory problem. AWS Transform ships its own agentless discovery appliance that runs entirely inside your data centre, then turns what it finds into a right-sized TCO business case and a dependency-aware wave plan — without a spreadsheet in sight.

An appliance you deploy yourself — no agents on the guests

The AWS Transform discovery tool is an Open Virtual Appliance you deploy into your VMware infrastructure. It replaces the Application Discovery Service Agentless Collector, and it is self-contained: no cloud connectivity, no external dependencies, no outbound internet access.

  • Three discovery paths. VMware vCenter auto-discovery, Microsoft Hyper-V auto-discovery, or server import from a CSV. Collection begins as soon as a source is configured and re-runs every hour, or on demand.
  • Performance data is what makes right-sizing real — recommendations come from observed utilisation, not the spec someone provisioned years ago.
  • Network connection data keeps related virtual machines in the same wave, so you don't cut over an application and leave a dependency on-premises.
  • Database metadata. SQL Server is inventoried over WinRM — version, edition, service configuration, instance names, service accounts and clustering status. Oracle collects over direct SQL, with OS-level fallback through SSH or WinRM.
  • Exports MPA — the Migration Portfolio Assessment format AWS and its partners use to exchange migration data, which assessment ingests directly.

A business case in minutes, then refined by conversation

Traditional assessment treats every pass as a one-shot report: collect, analyse, deliver a static business case, repeat the whole cycle when an input changes. AWS Transform keeps the assessment live — you adjust it in chat instead of re-running it.

  • Best-fit instance per server. The agent finds the lowest-cost Amazon EC2 instance that still fits each workload, against the target Region you choose.
  • Licensing is analysed, not assumed. Operating system and SQL Server licensing positions are surfaced as part of the inventory snapshot.
  • Several pricing options side by side, so finance compares commitment models rather than accepting a single number.
  • Refine without re-running. Add missing inventory, adjust on-premises costs, model alternative AWS services, change assumptions and explore what-if scenarios — all through natural language.
  • Ask it why. The agent explains what was in scope, why it picked a given instance type, and what the suggested next steps are based on.
  • Supports MAP qualification. The output can help establish whether you qualify for AWS programs and incentives such as the Migration Acceleration Program.

From servers to waves, in four reviewed steps

A manual wave plan is out of date the moment it's finished. AWS Transform treats planning as a process that keeps moving: re-upload discovery data whenever it changes and the plan adapts, with a human reviewing every recommendation before anything is actioned.

  • Scope & analyse. Review the discovery data, ask questions about your installed software and network architecture, and decide what is actually in scope.
  • Group apps. Hostname analysis, network dependencies and your own business rules turn loose servers into applications. If you already have an application inventory, planning uses that instead.
  • Generate move groups. Technical dependencies — shared databases, message queues — and business ones decide what has to move together.
  • Build waves. Sequenced on priority score, move-group size, user counts and application complexity, against your timelines.
  • Re-upload any time. New discovery data is processed, de-duplicated and merged with what exists. When a new dependency or infrastructure addition appears, the affected groups are flagged with recommended wave adjustments.

Your estate data never has to leave your data centre

The appliance is a self-contained application that can be deployed on-premises without cloud connectivity or external dependencies. Everything it collects is stored locally on the virtual appliance, and anything you export downloads to your own workstation. No data is transmitted to AWS unless you choose to upload it — which is what makes this workable for highly regulated industries and organisations with strict data-governance requirements.
